Rex Martin served as chairmain of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Kansas from 1972 to 1978, and continues his service at KU as a professor of philosophy. Martin's research has been in the areas of political and legal philosophy, in particular rights, history of ethics and philosphy of history. He served as Chairman of the American Philosophical Association's Committee on Philosophy and Law (1992-1995).The Personal Papers of Rex Martin include papers from the American Philosophical Association Committee on Philosophy and Law along with papers from his time serving as President of the American Section of the Committee.

Rex Martin is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Kansas. Martin earned his B.A. degree from Rice University in 1957 and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University, the latter in 1967. He also did post-graduate work at the University of Ediburgh, Scotland, from 1965 to 1966 in theology and philosophy. Martin taught at Columbia University, Purdue University, and Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, before coming to Kansas in 1968. He was promoted to...
